Marrakech’s La Mamounia: A Testament to Luxury and Elegance
Following its prominent inclusion in the Travel and Leisure rankings, La Mamounia achieved another prestigious accolade last month, securing the esteemed third position on Robb Report’s list of the world’s 50 best hotels. This distinguished recognition arrives at a pivotal juncture as La Mamounia prepares to commemorate its centenary with resplendence. Presently, the establishment is in the midst of a phase of enhancement, poised to unveil a renewed identity as the new academic year commences. These insights were articulated in the Tuesday, July 25th edition of Les Inspirations Eco.
This is by no means the first instance of La Mamounia’s consecration. In 2021, the illustrious palace in Marrakech ascended to the zenith of the most esteemed echelons within the hotel industry, securing the pinnacle position on the preeminent ranking list of the renowned American magazine, Conde Nast Traveler. In this feat, it secured recognition as both the paramount global and African hotel for the third consecutive time. Moreover, in August 2021, Pierre Jochem, the astute general manager of La Mamounia, received the accolade for the finest hotel manager by the esteemed American publication.
Having undergone a comprehensive renovation a few years ago, the opulent enclave in Marrakech has adeptly set itself apart through its opulence, the consummate professionalism of its staff, and an ambiance of warm hospitality. Noteworthy also are its gastronomic offerings of the highest caliber and its tastefully refined Moroccan design. The establishment boasts a total of 135 rooms, 71 suites, and 3 riads, all meticulously crafted to harmonize Moroccan artisanal finesse with contemporary aesthetics. The property encompasses an expansive casino, a superlative spa, and an extensive garden adorned with resplendent rose palm trees—a combination of attributes that merited it two prestigious global design awards.
Addressing earlier deliberations regarding its privatization a few years ago, it is fortunate that this trajectory has been decisively abandoned. La Mamounia stood as one among several esteemed entities in the Moroccan hospitality landscape that were contemplated for privatization. However, these venerable institutions remain rooted in Moroccan ownership. Noteworthy names such as La Mamounia, Palais Jamaï, Michlifen Ifrane Suites & Spa, and Marchica Lagoon Resort, each renowned in their own right, have since transitioned under the umbrella of a national high-end hotel consortium established in 2019.
