Luxembourg Dietitians Mark 40 Years of Championing Public Health
As the Association of Dietitians of Luxembourg (ANDL) celebrates its 40th anniversary
on Saturday, 21 June 2025, the milestone is more than just a commemoration of years
gone by; it is a renewed call to recognise the vital role dietitians play in building a
healthier society.
For four decades, ANDL has served as the backbone of professional nutritional care in
Luxembourg. Recognised and authorised by the Ministry of Health and Social Security,
Luxembourg’s dietitians are not merely advisers on food, they are trained health
professionals working at the frontline of both disease prevention and management.
From guiding individual patients on tailored therapeutic diets to leading group education
sessions and developing food safety standards, their influence is woven into many
aspects of daily life.
“Dietitians are not here to promote fads or fashionable eating trends,” ANDL
emphasised in a statement ahead of the celebration. “They apply science-based
knowledge to improve health outcomes, foster well-being, and support both individuals
and communities.”
The scope of their work is impressively broad. Whether providing nutritional therapy for
people with diabetes or heart conditions, teaching cooking workshops, advising
companies on healthy meal plans, or collaborating with sports coaches to maximise
athletic performance,
dietitians are integral to both prevention and performance. They also play key roles in
institutional catering, ensuring schools, hospitals, and elderly homes serve balanced,
safe meals.
Importantly, some dietetic consultations are covered by Luxembourg’s National Health
Fund (CNS), highlighting the government’s acknowledgment of the profession’s value in
reducing long-term healthcare costs.
Why Dietitians Matter More Than Ever
In an age marked by rising chronic diseases linked to poor dietary habits, such as
obesity, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and certain cancers; the role of
qualified dietitians has become increasingly significant. Unlike influencers and self-
styled nutritionists, dietitians are held to strict professional standards and scientific
guidelines. They can translate complex nutritional science into practical, sustainable
advice tailored to individual lifestyles and health goals.
Their contribution is not only medical but social. As eating disorders rise and
misinformation about nutrition proliferates online, dietitians act as critical voices of
reason and education. In schools, workplaces, and clinics, they help instill healthier

As ANDL marks this milestone, the association is reaffirming its dedication to
empowering citizens through accurate information, ethical practice, and collaboration
