Heading Off on Holiday? Free Caravan Safety Checks Offered in Bertrange This July
As summer road trips loom, Luxembourg’s traffic police are once again rolling out a free safety
check programme for caravan and camper van owners, hoping to prevent accidents caused by
overloaded or improperly maintained vehicles.
This year’s checks will be carried out in Bertrange on Tuesday, 1 July, and Thursday, 10 July,
from 9am to 1pm, at the UPR headquarters (21a, rue du Chemin de Fer, L-8057 Bertrange).
The initiative is part of the police’s seasonal campaign to boost road safety during the high-traffic
holiday season. With many families setting off on long drives, police are encouraging drivers to
ensure their vehicles meet safety standards before hitting the road.
One of the key focuses is vehicle weight. Police will offer free on-site weighing to help
motorists determine if their caravans are overloaded—a common but often overlooked risk factor
in holiday travel.
In addition to weight checks, officers will be available to offer personalised safety advice.
Topics include how to secure loads properly, assessing tyre condition, understanding driving
licence categories for various vehicles, and ensuring all vehicle documents are in order.
The campaign not only promotes safe travel but also offers caravan and camper owners peace of
mind, at no cost. It’s a proactive step to ensure that summer holidays begin and end without
roadside surprises.
