Luxembourg Lights Up for National Day with Royal Spectacle
Luxembourg launched its National Day festivities in dazzling fashion on Saturday night with a
vibrant sound-and-light show at the Grand Ducal Palace, drawing crowds of locals and visitors
into the heart of the capital.
Projected onto the palace’s stately façade, the multimedia display wove together music, lights,
and archival images of Grand Duke Henri and the Grand Ducal family, offering a visual journey
through key moments of their 25-year reign. The striking performance marked the official start
of the celebrations and set the tone for the patriotic days ahead.
The royal family watched the event from the official tribune, with Grand Duke Henri and Grand
Duchess Maria Teresa at the helm. They were accompanied by Prime Minister Luc Frieden,
Luxembourg City Mayor Lydie Polfer, cabinet ministers, and a host of dignitaries and invited
guests.
The atmosphere was electric as clear evening skies and warm weather drew large crowds to the
city centre. Applause rang out as the palace lit up with scenes celebrating the monarchy, unity,
and national pride.
With festivities scheduled to continue in the coming days, thousands more are expected to
descend on Luxembourg City to take part in concerts, parades, and cultural events. Saturday
night’s opener set a jubilant tone, bringing together citizens and their royals in a shared moment
of celebration.
