Three Charged with Manslaughter After Canal Death in Brussels

Brussels-Three men have been arrested and charged with manslaughter following the death of a 34-year-old man in the Brussels-Charleroi canal last week. The victim drowned after a fight involving four individuals on the Veeweyde quay in Anderlecht on Thursday morning.
Around 7:30 AM, two people fell into the water during the altercation. While one reached safety, the 34-year-old did not. The Brussels fire brigade initiated a search, and his body was recovered by a sonar boat at 10:40 AM.


The Public Prosecutor’s Office opened a judicial investigation for manslaughter. The three other men involved, aged 33 and 45, were arrested, questioned, and subsequently placed under arrest by an investigating judge on Friday. The exact cause of the fight and how individuals entered the water are still under investigation.
