New Chapter in Japan-Luxembourg Economic Relations

As the world prepares for the Osaka World Expo 2025, economic and diplomatic ties
between Japan and Luxembourg are expected to receive a significant boost. Running
from April 13 to October 13, the six-month global event serves not only as a cultural and
technological showcase but also as a strategic platform for expanding trade and
international cooperation.

Luxembourg’s participation in the Expo reflects its growing interest in deepening ties
with Japan, especially in the areas of innovation, finance, and sustainable development
and for Japan, the Expo offers a viable opportunity to open new channels for trade and
investment with international partners, including smaller but economically significant
countries like Luxembourg.

Luxembourg, known for its expertise in finance, digital infrastructure, and space
technology, is expected to use its pavilion to attract Japanese investors and promote
trade partnerships. With Japan being one of Asia’s largest economies and Luxembourg
one of Europe’s most dynamic financial hubs, the potential for mutual trade benefits is
significant.

Currently, trade between the two countries remains modest but stable. Japan exports
machinery, vehicles, and electronic goods to Luxembourg, while Luxembourg exports
specialty industrial products and financial services to Japan. However, the Expo
provides an opening to diversify and increase the volume of trade, particularly in digital
innovation, green technology, and fintech.

With both countries aligned in their support for innovation and sustainability, Osaka
Expo 2025 may well mark the beginning of a new chapter in Japan-Luxembourg
economic relations, built not only on shared goals but on a deepening sense of
partnership.
