LU-Alert Put to the Test

Luxembourg carried out a new nationwide test of its public warning system LU-Alert on Monday 2 February 2026, as authorities continue to roll out and fine-tune the country’s emergency communication strategy. The exercise combined the regular monthly test of the national siren network with a targeted trial of the geolocated SMS alert system.

From 10 a.m., residents in the northern part of the country received a test alert via geolocated SMS sent by the Water Management Administration. The same message was also delivered through the LU-Alert mobile application and published on the official website lu-alert.lu. Officials stressed that the alert was purely a test and required no action from the public.

All mobile phones connected to a Luxembourg network antenna within the affected area at the time of transmission were automatically included, regardless of nationality or subscription origin. This reflects how the system would operate in a real emergency, such as flooding or industrial incidents.

LU-Alert is designed to provide fast, reliable information to people in specific locations during crises. Authorities encourage residents to familiarise themselves with the system and consult the FAQ section on the LU-Alert website to better understand how alerts are delivered and what to expect in future tests or real situations.
