Luxembourg Science Center Turns New Page with Leadership Overhaul

The Luxembourg Science Center is entering a new era of accountability and renewed
purpose, following a period of internal turbulence and public uncertainty. On Thursday,
newly appointed General Director Nancy Racké officially stepped into her role, vowing
to steer the institution into calmer waters after months of controversy.

Speaking at a press conference, Racké described the transition as the beginning of a
“phase of normality and transparency,” a clear departure from the challenges that
marred the Center’s operations under previous leadership. Her predecessor, Nicolas
Didier, was dismissed in September 2024 amid serious allegations of conflict of interest,
casting a long shadow over the future of the educational and scientific hub.

Racké outlined sweeping structural changes aimed at rebuilding trust and ensuring
long-term stability. “We’ve restructured internally to eliminate any overlap of
responsibilities,” she said. “No individual can now hold multiple positions that could lead
to ethical concerns. A new finance department is in place, equipped with analytical
accounting tools to ensure full transparency, not only with our partners but also with the
public.”

Backing her reforms, the board of directors has undergone a complete renewal. Serge
Allegrezza, now serving as treasurer, underscored the importance of the changes. “We
have drawn a clear line between governance and management,” he said. “The director
is no longer part of the board and, crucially, is not linked to any company that supplies
the Science Center; a major flaw of the past administration.”

With governance issues addressed and a new leadership structure firmly in place, the
focus is now shifting back to the Science Center’s core mission, science education and
public engagement. Upcoming plans include a renovation of the main exhibition hall and
the launch of dynamic temporary exhibitions aimed at attracting a broader audience.
After a difficult chapter, the Luxembourg Science Center is looking ahead, refocused,
restructured, and ready to reclaim its place as a leading destination for science and
discovery.
