Brutal Knife Attack Leaves One Dead, Two Injured on Antwerp Bus
What began as an ordinary Monday bus ride through Antwerp turned into a scene of horror when
a passenger launched a violent knife attack, leaving one person dead and two others injured.
The assault occurred onboard a De Lijn bus traveling on route 36. Witnesses say the attacker
suddenly drew a knife and slashed another passenger’s throat in what authorities have described
as a “particularly savage” act. The victim, reportedly an elderly man, died from his injuries at the
scene.
A second passenger who tried to intervene was wounded during the chaos. The bus driver, also
caught in the incident, sustained injuries and was transported to hospital in shock, along with the
other survivor.
Emergency services rushed to the scene, and police quickly arrested the suspect, a 38-year-old
man, onboard the bus. He is now in custody. According to preliminary findings, there is no
evidence that the victims and the attacker knew each other.
The Antwerp public prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation to determine the motive
behind the attack, which has left the local community shaken.
