Police Warn of Surge in Fake Arrest Warrant Calls and Spoofed Numbers

Luxembourg police are urging the public to remain vigilant following a sharp uptick in
phone scams involving caller ID spoofing. In this increasingly common fraud tactic,
scammers mask their phone numbers to make it appear as though the call is coming
from a trusted local authority or institution.

According to officials, victims typically receive a pre-recorded message in English,
falsely claiming that an arrest warrant has been issued against them. The aim is to
pressure individuals into revealing personal data or making urgent bank transfers out of
fear.

Authorities stress that these calls are entirely fraudulent and do not reflect how any
legitimate government agency or financial institution operates. The technology behind
caller ID spoofing allows criminals to display Luxembourg numbers and even the names
of official agencies, adding to the deception.

Police are asking anyone who receives such a call not to engage, and anyone who has
already been targeted is encouraged to report the incident immediately.
