Chris Rodesch Makes Wimbledon History for Luxembourg

Chris Rodesch has etched his name into Luxembourg’s tennis history books, becoming
the first player from the Grand Duchy in years to qualify for the main draw at
Wimbledon.

The 23-year-old achieved the breakthrough on Thursday, battling past Hungarian
veteran Marton Fucsovics in a dramatic four-set clash: 6–3, 6–4, 0–6, 7–6 (7–4). It’s a
career-defining moment for Rodesch and a significant one for Luxembourgish sport,
marking the country’s first appearance in the Wimbledon main draw since Gilles Muller
in 2018 and Mandy Minella in 2019.

Facing Fucsovics, the top seed in the qualifying draw and a former Wimbledon quarter-
finalist (2021), was no small task. The Hungarian, once ranked as high as world No. 31,
dominated the third set 6–0, threatening to wrest momentum away. But Rodesch
steadied himself and clinched the fourth set in a tense tiebreak, delivering a
performance that underscored his tenacity and mental grit.

The victory not only secures Rodesch a place among tennis’s elite on the hallowed
grass of the All England Club, it also marks his debut in a Grand Slam main draw, a
crucial step forward in the young player’s career.

His first-round opponent will be revealed in Friday’s official draw, but for now, Rodesch
and his supporters have reason to celebrate: Luxembourg is back on tennis’s biggest
stage.
