In the heart of Luxembourg, a young artist is making waves with a sound that transcends borders. Oke Khalid, a 23-year-old Nigerian-Luxembourgish musician, polyglot, and sociology student at the University of Luxembourg, is crafting a unique fusion of Afro-pop, R&B, and Soul—melding his African roots with European influences. With over 30 tracks released, a million streams under his belt, and a rapidly growing fanbase, Khalid is proving that music is more than just sound—it’s a bridge between worlds.

Born in Nigeria, Khalid spent his early years in Lagos under the care of his grandmother, a deeply religious woman whose love and generosity left an indelible mark on him. “She was a giver,” he recalls fondly. “She would give even when she had nothing.” It was in the pews of their local church that Khalid first discovered his voice, singing hymns at just five years old.

At 10, he moved to Luxembourg—a transition that came with cultural shocks but also opportunities. He quickly adapted, learning to speak six languages (English, Portuguese, French, Luxembourgish, Yoruba, and German) simply by listening and mimicking those around him. “I was in a ‘welcome class’ full of Portuguese-speaking students,” he explains. “I just picked up the language naturally.”
His musical journey took a serious turn in the 7th grade when he performed his first solo—Amazing Grace—igniting a passion that would later define his career.

Khalid’s professional career began in 2017 when he was discovered by Luxon, a local music producer. Since then, he has released nearly 30 tracks, with 2019 marking a turning point. Just before the pandemic, his Spotify streams skyrocketed, surpassing one million. “I was scared during lockdown,” he admits. “I thought people would stop listening. But when I saw the numbers, I realized, Wow, this is possible.”
Unlike many artists who chase fleeting trends, Khalid is intentional about his sound. “I don’t want to release disposable music,” he says. “I want people to remember my songs, to feel something.” His style blends traditional African rhythms with contemporary pop—a fusion he calls “Afro-dance” or “Afro-pop.” Tracks like “Ta Mère“, a heartfelt tribute to his late grandmother, showcase his soulful vocals and emotional depth.

Khalid’s music is deeply rooted in his dual identity. “I am Luxembourgish, but I am also African,” he asserts. “I don’t have to hide it—I have to show it.” His lyrics often incorporate Yoruba phrases, African-inspired melodies, and themes of unity.
“African culture is starting to reach Europe, but it’s not enough,” he says. “We need to create space for ourselves.” His upcoming project will highlight Luxembourg’s diversity while paying homage to his heritage. “My sound is warm, about people, about unity,” he explains.

Khalid’s talents extend beyond the studio. A former competitive runner, he has won tournaments in Luxembourg and abroad. He’s also ventured into modeling, appearing in magazines like Imani. “It’s another way to express myself,” he says.
Acting is next on his list—he dreams of performing in musicals, though he recently turned down an audition for Sister Act to focus on music. “A better opportunity will come when I’m ready,” he says confidently.

Khalid believes African music is on the verge of global domination. “Nigerian artists like Burna Boy, Wizkid, and Simi are changing the game,” he says. “They’re modernizing sounds that Fela Kuti pioneered.”
As for his own future, Khalid is determined to take his music beyond Luxembourg. “I want to perform internationally, meet new cultures, and keep evolving,” he says. With his multilingual fluency, cross-cultural appeal, and undeniable talent, Oke Khalid is an artist to watch—one whose music doesn’t just entertain but unites.
